Stepping outside your comfort zone

Okay, so I can't believe I actually did this today. I sang a solo in church! In. Front. Of. Everyone. I have never been so nervous in all my life! And I really mean that. More nervous than the first day of school, more nervous than the day I got married, more nervous than right before I had my first baby. Wow. My friend Andrea played the piano, and I sang. (Thank you SOOOO much Andrea!!!) I'm so thankful to have a friend that can play the piano so well. I can't believe I agreed to do it, but I'm so glad I did. Hopefully it wasn't too bad! I promise I sound much better when my heart is not pounding in my throat. I got a lot of positive feedback, so it must not have been too bad. I just am always worried that I'm one of those people on American Idol that think they sound good and everyone else is like, seriously? You can't hear how bad you sound??? Well anyway, it was a good experience for me, especially now that it is over and I'm glad I did it.

You should have announced it on your blog, you could have had more fans show up! I would have loved to hear you, I bet you did great! I'm not a singer but I can't even imagine singing in front of so many people. Playing the piano is just your fingers, so if you mess up it's just like "Oops, my fingers messed up." But singing, oh my goodness, it seems so much more personal, it's coming from within you... it just scares me to death to do a solo like that! Way to go!

Wow! That is terrific. You have a great voice Amy. I remember when I first moved into 6th ward and I was sitting by you in Relief Society. You had such a pretty voice that I stopped singing because I didn't want you to hear my crazy "nails on a chalkboard voice."

I bet it was AMAZING!!! I'm surprised that you haven't sang a solo before now!! You are so talented musically I doubt it was much of a struggle. But kudos to you for stepping out of the ZONE. The only thing now, they know you're good and will want to hear more. So BEWARE, or PRACTICE!!

I am so impressed...calming those nerves has to be the biggest hurdle to jump over.

Kudos to you!

Wow that's awesome. I'm contemplating how to get out of singing a solo for New Beginnings. I'm guessing they'll notice if I ditch out. Well, I hope all is well. I am sad about one thing. I didn't get to come.

Yikes, that would freak me out too.

You're a musician and understand music and notes, I bet you were fantastic.

I am so glad you did it too. What's funny is that last week when you guys were sitting behind us, I was thinking what a great voice you had and wondering why you didn't sing in the choir or why I had never seen you sing in church. Thank you for granting my wishes! I thought you did such a beautiful job.

I love that version of "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". You and Andrea both did wonderfully!

Wow, I'm impressed. I wish I could have heard you. I've done solo singing in church years ago when I was a teenager, but I canNOT imagine doing it now. I would just die of nerves, I know it.

Oh Amy! I thought it sounded just beautiful! You and Andrea did such a great job.
It is by far one of my favorite hymns, it was played at my baptism also, so it holds a special place in my heart.
Also, your song in RS also moved me, I can't wait to learn it all....it sounded great :)
You are so talented!

Way to go! I bet it was beautiful. I had the same experience as Lindsay, I remember sitting by you one time singing and was so impressed at your voice. I'm actually shocked you have never sung a solo in church before!

Amy it was BEAUTIFUL! You both did such an amazing job!! I couldn;t tell you were nerbouse at all. It was very pleasant to listen too. I LOVE that song, too. After you sang I leaned over to Kevin and told him I wanted the girls to take singing and piano lessons:)

That's one of my favorite arrangements of that song and you both sounded wonderful.

Man, I missed it! I was home with sick kids. Someone the other day was telling me what a great voice you have. Daniel said it was great!

wow Amy! Way to go! And I'm SO sure that you have TONS better judgement of your own voice than those crazy tone-deaf people on American Idol. I think that deep down inside they know they suck at it, but pretend they're amazing to get themselves a few seconds of National television fame, as pathetic as their grandkids will one day find it to be :) haha
